"It's not a curse really..." James sighed as stared back at the blue haired fairy that sat perched upon his hand. "I mean I am the guardian of the forest now! Yeah I know I don't really look that...powerful." He added with a slight shrug. "...but I know some really cool spells that help a lot!"

The fairy giggled as she took flight, hovering just inches from the boy's face.

"But don't you miss your mother?" the fairy sweetly asked, her wings humming like a tiny motor.

"Always." James honestly replied as he tried valiantly to keep his spirits up. "But I can always watch her...you know, from a distance..." He stopped as he shifted his position on the thick tree branch. "Somehow I don't think that she would...understand the whole fox ears...the tail...or the magic powers..."

"But she's your mother..." the fairy gently prodded. "Shouldn't she...you know...understand?"

James glanced down at the forest floor as he swung his bare feet to and fro. He knew that the fairy meant well. He knew that she only wanted to help...

...but he didn't want to answer that question. He couldn't and wouldn't answer that question.

Because he knew the answer all too well...
